SHANGHAI – General Motors and its joint ventures in China are showcasing a record 53 production and concept vehicles under six brands at Auto Shanghai 2013, which runs from April 20-29.

Among the vehicles on display are the new Buick Riviera concept vehicle, which is making its global debut at the show, and the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback and Cadillac Escalade ESV, which are both making their China debut.

“Our products at Auto Shanghai 2013 highlight the innovative technologies that GM continues to bring to our largest market,” said Bob Socia, President, GM China, and Chief Country Operations Officer, China, India and ASEAN. “They demonstrate our company’s unequalled commitment to meeting the changing needs of our customers across China.”

The new Buick Riviera concept vehicle is having its worldwide premiere on the eve of Auto Shanghai 2013. Designed jointly by GM’s Shanghai GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint ventures in Shanghai, it offers a preview of Buick’s future design trends through its elegant exterior and interior. It also features a range of advanced technologies, including plug-in hybrid electric vehicle propulsion technology. Appearing alongside the new Riviera concept vehicle are the 1965 Buick Riviera Coupe and 2007 Buick Riviera concept vehicle. The three models show how Buick styling has evolved over time.

Auto Shanghai 2013 is the venue for the Chinese premiere of the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback. The new model complements the Cruze sedan, which is one of Chevrolet’s most popular models offered in China, and the rest of the brand’s domestic lineup on display.

Cadillac has on display 10 models, including the Escalade ESV, the brand’s new flagship SUV that is making its debut in China at Auto Shanghai 2013. The Escalade ESV reinterprets Cadillac’s slogan of “be dramatic” with its elegant and fashionable design, premium equipment, powerful performance, advanced safety and riding comfort.

Opel has returned to Auto Shanghai with its full product lineup in China led by its newly launched Insignia Sports Tourer, which will go on sale nationwide starting early next month at a price of between RMB 325,000 and RMB 375,000. Opel is also showcasing two new models – the Zafira Tourer and Astra GTC – together with its most popular model in the market, the Antara SUV.

The Baojun passenger car brand is showcasing the new 2013 Baojun 630, which is powered by 1.5L DVVT and 1.8L ECOTEC engines and features improvements from the original model in handling, interior styling and comfort, exterior styling and safety. Accompanying the Baojun 630 is the Lechi, an iconic high-performance mini-car that joined the brand’s lineup in 2012.

Jiefang from FAW-GM is displaying two models that go on sale later this year. The new Jiefang S230 and Jiefang F330 are important additions to the brand’s growing light-duty truck family.
