A Hole-In-One: The Greg Norman Hot Rod Silverado Las Vegas, Nov. 3, 1998 - To the great relief of groundskeepers everywhere, you won't see this "golf cart" ripping down the fairway or putting around the green. Instead, this vehicle - the Greg Norman Hot Rod Silverado - is road ready.
Greg Norman's Hot Rod Silverado Photo: GM Based on the four-passenger, three-door, half-ton 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, it's everything Greg Norman, the renowned golf professional, would want in a truck. With a beefy 540 cu. in. big block engine and a 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission under the hood, it's ready and raring to go, giving golfers something to think about between rounds. The chassis of this rear-wheel-drive muscle truck, which produces 615 lb.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm and has a power peak of 505 BHP at 4750 rpm, consists of an independent, torsion-bar front suspension, leaf-spring rear suspension and Bear Racing, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS. The Goodyear P315/40ZR-18 Eagle F1 tires that accompany the package are wrapped snugly around Billet 18" x 9.5" wheels. The exhaust system is as shiny as a golfer's prized putter. It includes custom fabricated stainless steel headers with 2" primary tubes, a custom fabricated stainless steel dual 3" exhaust system with two Edelbrock 3" inlet and outlet mufflers, and -- capping it off - polished dual 4" stainless steel tailpipes from Corsa. The exterior is a PPG Giallomodena yellow, and the custom front grille with integral bowtie, front fascia, rear wings, rocker panels, and door and tailgate handles are painted to match. The tonneau cover has four separate locking access hatches with storage bins, and - just what every golfer needs - there's a custom rear bed pull-out with storage for two gold bags. This handy unit makes the loading and unloading of golf bags at the course a snap. Inside the Greg Norman Hot Rod Silverado is even hotter. The integral front center console has a GPS, TV, cup holders and six-disc Delco CD changer. The rear center console has a VCR - for watching replays of that game-winning 20-yard chip shot - cup holders, a Boser bass module and RSA (Rear-Seat Audio module that lets passengers listen to a different CD or radio station than the driver. This Bose music system represents the first use of Bose's Acoustimassr speaker technology in a full-size pick-up truck. The Bose system consists of two pillar-mounted tweeters, two door-mounted 6.5" wide-range speakers, two single cube speakers mounted under the front seat, a 9-liter, dual-chambered Acoustimass module located in the rear console, and a power module offering five channels of amplification and five channels of custom equalization. A new level of audio performance is brought to rear seat passengers via the Bose Headset X. Primarily used in aviation, the headsets not only deliver rear seat audio separate of the front seats, but also provide the latest in active noise cancellation technology. Weighing in at a scant 12 ounces, the headsets create peaceful quiet when worn by the rear seat passenger not listening to music. When rear seat passengers are in the mood for music, the headsets deliver true high-fidelity audio. Making a trip to the gold course an adventure, the Greg Norman Hot Rod Silverado is a hole-in-one. But with all the toys it has to offer - including the TV, VCR and advanced music system - some golfers might not want to get out, leaving the links for another.
