GM Powertrain Announces New Plant Manager At Saginaw Malleable Iron PONTIAC, Mich. - Darrel L. Phillips, currently manager of aluminum and iron foundries at the GM do Brasil, Sao Jose dos Campos plant, has been named manager of the GM Powertrain (GMPT) Saginaw (Mich.) Malleable Iron plant. Homi Patel, vice president of manufacturing for GMPT, made the announcement. Phillips will report to J. Michael Williams, manufacturing manager of GMPT’s Component Operations. This new appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2001. “Darrel’s previous experience at GMPT together with the knowledge he gained in his recent assignment with GM do Brasil, provide the right combination of qualifications for his new assignment,” said Patel. “We welcome him back to GMPT and look forward to the application of his recent international experience at the Saginaw Malleable Iron plant.” Phillips began his GM career in 1966 as a college-graduate-in-training at the Defiance, Ohio, castings plant. He advanced through several positions there, including foreman, general foreman and superintendent. In 1987, he transferred to the former Saginaw Grey Iron plant, now Saginaw Metal Castings, as general superintendent. He returned to the Defiance plant in 1993 when he was promoted to production manager. Phillips joined GM do Brasil in 1999 when he was named manager of aluminum and iron foundries. Phillips is a native of Kenton, Ohio. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio Northern University (Ada, Ohio). He is a member of the American Foundry Society and the Brazilian Foundry Society. (Dec. 11, 2000)
