LEONI profit for the financial year up by 25%

Two-figure growth rate in turnover and profits

Nuremberg ­ LEONI AG, Nuremberg, exceeded the 1 billion euros mark and increased its turnover by some 14% to 1.1 billion euros in 2001 (2000: 962 million euros). Profit for the financial year is to rise even more sharply than turnover: provisional figures show that the 2001 figure of roughly 28 million euros will be some 25% up on the previous year (2000: 22.3 million euros).

Solid base thanks to strong position in different markets

Thatıs how LEONI AG managed to overshoot the forecasts for the year 2001, which were good as it was, even though the general economic conditions had deteriorated in the course of the year. At the same time, heavy investments were made in setting up and developing new locations. The LEONI Group's strong position in various markets means that it has such a broad base that it is not so badly affected by the weaker economic situation in individual sectors. Growth prospects for 2002

LEONI envisages opportunities for growth in 2002, too, and is targeting a reasonable rise in turnover of around 5 %. The company has concurrent plans to further improve the level of profits. In 2002 the volume of investments will be markedly smaller than in the previous year. Preparations are currently underway for major orders from DaimlerChrysler, General Motors and BMW, which are to start up in the next two to three years. In order to provide the requisite capacities, LEONI is creating two new sites in Romania and the Ukraine. At present the LEONI Group employs 18,000 staff at roughly 60 locations around the world.
