Sports Car To Join Saturn Line-Up In 2006
|
Saturn Portfolio To Expand
Significantly During Next Three Years
DETROIT - General Motors
announced today that Saturn would add a sports car to its vehicle line-up
in early 2006. The product will be built at its Wilmington, Del.,
manufacturing facility. Wilmington is also the future production site of
the Pontiac Solstice. The Solstice and the new Saturn will be built on
GM's new small car "Kappa" architecture.
"The future sports car
will serve as a halo vehicle for Saturn," said Bob Lutz, GM Vice
Chairman, Product Development, Chairman GM North America and
Interim-President GM Europe. "This is a game-changer for Saturn. It
is the first vehicle of its type for the growing brand and showcases a
dramatic new styling direction."

Saturn's portfolio is
expanding. In addition to the sports car, Saturn will introduce three new
products during the next 36 months, including RELAY - a crossover sport
van - due out this fall, a new midsize vehicle based on GM's Epsilon
architecture coming in 2006, followed by a larger SUV. In addition, the
brand recently introduced a group of performance vehicles, the ION and VUE
Red Lines. Saturn vehicles are sold by 440 retailers nationwide, a group
that leads the industry in customer sales and service.
