Wolfsburg - In the first quarter of 2004, the Passat 2.0 TDI with diesel particulate filter accounted for a greater percentage of Passat new registrations.

Twelve percent of all Passat estate customers now opt for a diesel particulate filter in their vehicle. In the last quarter of 2003, 6.5 percent of Passat estates were fitted with a diesel particulate filter. The percentage of Passat Estates with diesel particulate filters has thus almost doubled in this period. In the saloon, fitting rates for diesel particulate filters have remained constant at around five percent. Since October 2003, additive-assisted diesel particulate filters have been fitted as standard to the Passat TDI with a 2-litre, 100 kW/136 PS engine.

In the environmental ranking for cars published by the "Öko-Trend" environmental institute based in Wuppertal, Germany, the Passat went straight to the number one position at the beginning of the year. In view of its engine which combines fuel-efficiency with high performance, the Öko-Trend institute has described the fuel consumption of the Passat 2.0 TDI of just 6.1 litres per 100 km as "exemplarily low", and has designated it as the "most pro-environmental touring car with a high transportation capacity".

The Passat 2.0 TDI with diesel particulate filter is available at a starting price of 26,200 euros for the saloon; the estate version has a starting price of 27,300 euros. Both fulfil EU 4 exhaust emission standards.
