GM highlights at the 2004 North American International Auto Show:

  • 2005 Chevrolet Corvette - Marking the sixth generation of its legacy, the 2005 Corvette delivers more power, passion and precision to reach a new standard of performance car excellence.

  • 2005 Pontiac G6 - Stretching the boundaries of traditional midsize sedans, this Epsilon-based sports sedan provides exceptional interior room, razor sharp ride-and-handling attributes and unexpected refinement.

  • Saturn Curve and Chevy Nomad - Based on GM's forthcoming compact, rear-wheel-drive Kappa architecture, these concepts demonstrate expressive ideas of personal sports cars. The Kappa architecture's four-cylinder engine, rear-drive layout mirrors the popular 2001 Pontiac Solstice roadster concept in size and proportion.

The development of the C6 intends to not only replace the outgoing C5 Corvette (1997-2004), but also to create a 21st century Corvette that both thrills the legions of traditional loyalists and captures the imagination of a new generation of performance enthusiasts. The formula from the C5 era remains: extremely high performance capabilities in a car that offers great style, value and quality, with surprising comfort for daily driving. The C6 builds on that foundation and reaches beyond with dramatic increases in performance and refinement, wrapped in a passionate new design.

The sixth generation Corvette blends technical sophistication with expressive style. Five inches shorter than the current car, the 2005 Corvette cuts a tighter, more taut profile – with virtually no loss of usable space. More than just visual, the new dimensions make the car more agile and “tossable,” with upgrades in handling, acceleration and braking. At 0.28 coefficient of drag, the C6 is the most aerodynamically efficient Corvette ever and has improved anti-lift characteristics that enable improved high-speed stability and confidence.

Chevy Nomad Concept

.
The Nomad is a concept car built by GM. It’s not a sedan, wagon, SUV or any other categorizable vehicle, but it simultaneously conveys presence and practicality.

Based on GM’s new Kappa architecture, which also serves as the foundation for the Pontiac Solstice production model and Saturn Curve concept, the Nomad represents another line of thought when it comes to leveraging a new sports car platform. Its off-the-hook styling is readily identifiable as a Chevrolet, but with a contemporary flair.

And since it’s Kappa-based, the Nomad is rear-wheel drive, boasting independent front and rear suspensions attached to a rigid chassis that uses a pair of full-length hydroformed frame rails as its foundation. To make room for rear-seat riders in its 2+2 configuration, the Nomad rides on a 107-inch wheelbase – 2 inches longer than other Kappa architecture-based concepts.

Saturn Curve and Chevy Nomad - Based on GM's forthcoming compact, rear-wheel-drive Kappa architecture, these concepts demonstrate expressive ideas of personal sports cars. The Kappa architecture's four-cylinder engine, rear-drive layout mirrors the popular 2001 Pontiac Solstice roadster concept in size and proportion.

General Motors introduced the Saturn Curve at the North American International Auto Show. It was one of the vehicles, including the Pontiac Solstice production model and Chevrolet Nomad concept, built on GM’s new rear-wheel-drive Kappa architecture.

Design creativity and implementation was a collaboration of GM’s worldwide resources, driven by GM North America’s Advanced Design Team and developed by GM’s European Advanced Design Center in Sweden. The European design influence bolsters the Curve’s aura of refinement. Final assembly was completed in Italy, with assistance from Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina.

Hummer H3T

.
Innovative features abound in the H3T: The pickup box incorporates side-access doors, along with drop-down assist steps that also double as weather-tight storage compartments. The H3T's unique tailgate forms an unbroken load surface when down, contributing to the H3T's versatility.

There's also a large, power-operated folding canvas sunroof and drop-down rear window that combine to offer an open-air driving experience.

There wouldn't be a HUMMER badge on the H3T if it didn't have the capability to dive into twisty terrain that would leave lesser 4x4s spinning their wheels. Its wheels-at-the-corners stance, along with 34-inch-tall tires and 11.5 inches of ground clearance, gives the H3T a 51-degree approach angle and a 50-degree departure angle - critical measures on HUMMER's internal "off-road performance metric" of capabilities.
