The new Polo – no-compromise value for money With its top-quality technology, the new Polo is an even better deal than its predecessor
The Polo at the IAA presentation Photo: Automotive Intelligence Frankfurt - The fourth-generation Polo, presented by Volkswagen at the German Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt, sets new and most welcome standards - and the price is no exception. For the new Polo - despite an extended standard equipment programme - prices for almost all engine versions are as much as 1,500 German Marks below the previous models. Standard equipment on all models includes power steering, anti-lock braking (ABS) and a newly developed airbag system with front and side bags. The new Polo comes with a choice of seven engines; all the spark-ignition units and the two TDI diesels comply with the EU D4 exhaust emission standard. Polo owners will therefore benefit from road tax concessions of up to 1,200 DM. In addition to favourable pricing, this brand-new model has a convincingly low cost of ownership. As the only car in its class, the newcomer has been placed immediately in the lowest German comprehensive insurance category (VK 10). The fully galvanized two- and four-door body makes the Polo a particularly safe car of lasting value. Moreover, Volkswagen grants a 12-year anti-rust penetration warranty. The 55 kW (75 bhp) Polo 1.4 is available at prices starting from 12,500 Euro (DM 24,447.87), the Polo TDI with the same power output is priced from 13,925 Euro (DM 27,234.93). At 11,225 Euro (DM 21,954.18) the basic version with 40 kW (55 bhp) is priced exactly at the same level as the previous 37 kW (50 bhp) model. (Sept. 09, 2001) [Homepage] [
