American Production Results
Engine Production Reaches
Record Level
Vehicle Capacity to Increase
470,000 Units by 2008
Erlanger, KY - Toyota Motor
Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA) announced
today that the company's North American manufacturing facilities
produced 1,553,790 vehicles and 1,428,662 engines in 2006.
In North America, Toyota produces
the Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Matrix, Sequoia,
Sienna, Solara, Tacoma, Tundra and Lexus RX 350.
Year-over-year, vehicle production
was unchanged and engine production was up ten percent to reach
a record level. Toyota is currently preparing for numerous
start-up and expansion activities in North America that will
increase vehicle capacity to two million units by 2008. This
represents an additional 470,000 units of vehicle capacity in
North America.
"This was a critical year for
Toyota as we began production of the next generation Camry, the
Camry Hybrid and commenced Tundra production in Texas," said
Seiichi Sudo, president and COO of TEMA. "By 2008, Toyota's
vehicle capacity will grow 33 percent as we follow our
philosophy to build vehicles where we sell them."
This following is a breakdown of
Toyota's capacity increase through 2008:
• Toyota Motor Manufacturing,
Texas (TMMTX) started operations in November 2006 and, when at
full capacity, will be able to produce 200,000 units of Tundra
pickup trucks per year.
• Subaru Indiana Automotive, Inc.
(SIA) will begin production of the Camry this spring and, when
at full capacity, will be able to produce 100,000 units
annually.

• Toyota Motor Manufacturing de Baja
California (TMMBC) will expand Tacoma truck capacity this year by 20,000
units for total vehicle capacity of 50,000 units annually.
• Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada's (TMMC)
Woodstock facility will begin production of the RAV4 in 2008 with
capacity of 150,000 units annually.
Additionally, Toyota anticipates the
following projects to come on line in 2007:
• Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West
Virginia, Inc. (TMMWV) will produce an additional 240,000 automatic
transmissions for total annual capacity of 600,000 automatic
transmissions per year.
• Bodine Aluminum, Inc.'s Jackson,
Tennessee plant will increase capacity to build one million engine
blocks and 270,000 cast aluminum transmission cases and housings.
